98se doesn't show the processor in the system settings... only the Ram.

The best way is to start the boot process, then hit F2 to go into setup. There it will list the processor, memory, and many other system settings.

Another little shortcut... instead of Start/Control Panel/System...

you can right click on My Computer and choose "Properties". It takes you to the same place. [img]smile.gif[/img]

very true, but since it was titled "I am a computer idiot", you know how many times I tell someone to right click or double click on My Computer, and they get up from their system and walk over to mine?

Sometimes you have to take the long way to get someone where they are going.

where do i go in windows 98 2nd to find out what processor is in my lap top. its a dell

If you go to the following path:

Start | Settings | Control Panel | System

The General window that is shown should tell you the make and speed of the processor (e.g. Intel Pentium III 866 Mhz)

If you need to know more indepth information I can give you some links to freeware you can download that will poll your system.

The other option (which didn't click to begin with) is since it is a DELL, they have excellent service on the web.

You can go to support.dell.com and either type in the service tag number that comes with your system, or have the site poll the system and tell you what it has in it currently, and what it would have had when you bought it.
